시상내역 Did important work of the Plateau problem which is concerned with finding minimal surfaces connecting and determined by some fixed boundary. Douglas also worked on the calculus of variations and, in 1951, studied groups with 2 generators x, y such that every element can be expressed in the form x^my^n with m, n integers.
